Steven Spielberg is among the greatest directors in Hollywood. Known for his versatility as a director, he has contributed massively to the world of cinema. However, he has not been free from controversies and blatant accusations.
Jennifer Lawrence is among the very few actresses in Hollywood who are not afraid to call out others for their problematic opinions. Now it seems like her Hunger Games co-star and the illustrious actress Elizabeth Banks has joined her. Back in 2017, when she won an award for excellence in Feature Directing award, the actress blatantly called out the illustrious director, Steven Spielberg, for a wild yet dumb reason.
Elizabeth Banks Calls Out Steven Spielberg For Weird Reason
Elizabeth Banks is an extremely talented American actress, director, and producer. Throughout the career, she has made many notable contributions to the entertainment industry. Back in 2017, the Hunger Games star was honored at the Women in Film Crystal+ Lucy Awards for Excellence in Feature Directing.
While on stage thanking and advocating the importance of equal representation and women’s role in the entertainment industry, she subtly took a dig at the talented director Steven Spielberg for not making films centered around a female lead.
“I went to ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Jaws’ and every movie Steven Spielberg ever made…he’s never made a movie with a female lead. Sorry, Steven. I don’t mean to call your a*s out, but it’s true.”
Banks’ statement however is far from the truth since Steven Spielberg has made movies like The Color Purple and Sugarland Express which are centred around a female lead. Fans were quick to call out the actress for her allegedly toxic and trashy views. Many even regarded her as a ‘Karen’, for calling the Jaws director out for no reason at all.

Elizabeth Banks Faced Humiliating Defeat After Calling Out Steven Speilberg
One thing best about being an artist is artistic creativity and liberty. Even directors have the liberty to explore themes and make movies about things that catch their fancy. However, Elizabeth Banks seems oblivious to the fact as she called Steven Speilberg for his lack of female-centered films, which turned out to be not at all the truth.
After being called out for her problematic comments and an alleged toxic 10-minute-long speech, she was forced to issue an apology statement. On her official Twitter account, the actress apologized to the Schindler’s List director.
“I messed up. When referring to Steven Spielberg at the Women in Film awards, I framed my comments about his films inaccurately. I want to be clear from the start that I take full responsibility for what I said and I’m sorry. When I made the comments, I was thinking of recent films Steven directed, it was not my intention to dismiss the import of the #TheColorPurple……… Those who have the privilege and honor of directing and producing films should be held to account for our mistakes, whether it’s about diversity or inaccurate statements. I’m very sorry.”
And hence the Hunger Games star had to face a humiliating defeat.
