Dakota Johnson Revealed Her Biggest Sacrifice
Upon its release, Fifty Shades of Grey presented a premise that was critically panned. However, the film’s commercial success reached unimaginable heights. Against a budget of $40 million, a worldwide box office gross of $569.7 million was amassed. The narrative may not have found favor with the critics. Nonetheless, many people considered the film adaption an elevated rendition of its source material, E. L. James’s novel of the same name.
For Dakota Johnson, starring as Anastasia Steele was a challenging endeavor. The subject matter itself proved to be contentious. During GLAMOUR‘s 2015 Twitter Q&A, the actress revealed the biggest sacrifice she ever made:
“To do Fifty Shades [was the biggest sacrifice]. The whole world can see me naked…”
Johnson’s complex journey throughout the Fifty Shades film trilogy entailed certain risks. She handled the trials and tribulations of the controversial role front-on as a competent performer. Her commitment and attention to the endeavor were evident in her ability to tackle a subject that many people may find embarrassing or uncomfortable. While Johnson admitted to having several “cringe-y” moments while filming the movie’s intimate sequences, her on-screen performance never reflected embarrassment, discomfort, or comparable sentiments. What Dakota Johnson Took From The Fifty Shades of Grey Set
In the same Q&A, Johnson was asked to reveal an item she kept from the 2015 erotic romantic drama film’s set. The Cha Cha Real Smooth alum stated that she snagged a flogger and stole some “comfortable” underwear from the set. A flogger is essentially a type of whip. What use could the actress possibly have of the risqué prop? She disclosed that too in her response:
“I do have a flogger in my house. It’s in the garage with dust. […] I stole lots of the underwear. They were comfortable.”
It’s certainly a one-of-a-kind keepsake. What’s even more hilarious is that the prop is gathering dust in the actress’ garage. Regardless, Johnson’s lighthearted statements indicate that she experienced a relatively enjoyable time in production. Despite facing hurdles and committing to an endeavor that entailed “mayhem” most of the time, the actress once affirmed that she doesn’t regret playing Anastasia Steele. We’ll take her word for it.
