Rachel McAdams was dubbed the new IT girl of Hollywood thanks to her outstanding portrayals in the 2000s. From her debut in The Hot Chick to gaining prominence with films like Mean Girls, The Notebook, and Wedding Crashers, she imprinted her marks in the industry. But little did she know that her glamorous career would push her for something that she would find uncomfortable to work on.
Rachel McAdams Walked Off The Nude Vanity Fair Photoshoot
In 2006, Rachel McAdams was set to pose alongside Scarlett Johansson and Kiera Knightley for a nude Vanity Fair cover photo. However, she was initially unaware of the theme until she reached the photoshoot. On learning that the other actresses were in total agreement with the nude photo shoot, she did otherwise.
She refused to participate and addressed why she chose to let go of the golden opportunity to feature on the cover of the magazine’s annual Hollywood issue.
Walking away from the photoshoot was the only way for her to get out of that situation.
“I didn’t see any other way,” McAdams shared.
She asserted,
“It wasn’t something I could ever possibly see myself doing. I have no issues doing it for a part if it makes sense, if it’s not gratuitous and I think it’s adding to the story. But not as myself on the cover of a magazine about Hollywood’s most powerful young women.”
Even the other actresses addressed the former’s sudden departure from the shoot.
Keira Knightley’s Take on The Vanity Fair Nude Photoshoot
The Pirates of the Caribbean star further delved into the controversial photoshoot, sharing her thoughts on the Red Eye actress’s decision to not move forward with it.
“It was actually pretty undramatic as I remember it. Quite early on Rachel just said, ‘No, I’m not into that’. She’s a lovely girl, and I really respect her for doing that. Both me and Scarlett had worked with Annie Leibovitz (the photographer) and her team before, and I really get on with them, so that was a situation I felt comfortable in.”
She further asserted why the two popular actresses went ahead with the shoot.
“I really believe in this industry women have to be very true to themselves about what they’re comfortable with. Both me and Scarlett said, ‘This is definitely something that we’re up for.’ “So why not? It’s something to show the grandchildren!”
While the duo boldly showed themselves, it became one of the highly controversial Hollywood covers since both the actresses went nude with fashion icon, Tom Ford posing with his clothes on. Many deemed the issue as highly inappropriate leading to quite a backlash.
