“There was Kick-Ass,” he says, “and then there was Godzilla and Avengers, and all those things lined up for me. But I didn’t really care for them.” He was getting offers to do more of that stuff for more money. He was up for roles “that nobody knows about—big, huge franchises that were in play.”

During an interview with Esquire, Taylor-Johnson revealed that even though he has been part of a number of big-scale projects like Kick-Ass, Godzilla, and Avengers, he did not care much for them, despite the fact that these types of films were to be offered to him much more frequently with quite huge salaries and for roles that he has never revealed to the public.

“I wanted, purely, to be with my babies,” he says. “I didn’t want to be taken away from them. I battled with what that would be like.” Looking back, he says, “I would say I was probably not ready to be in that position anyway—it was too early. But yeah, I also slightly didn’t give a f*ck.”

The actor being a father, went on to say that he wanted to focus on his children much more than working on a big-scale project, stating that the idea of not getting to be with his children due to his work was something he battled with quite a bit before settling on this decision.

He then added, stating that when he did do these films, he would do only one film a year and spend the rest of his time with his children.
