“I didn’t like him”: Marvel Star Anthony Hopkins Called Oscar-Winning Actress ‘Obnoxious’ After the Failure of $6M Movie That Landed Him Worst Actor Nomination

Marvel Star Anthony Hopkins Called Oscar-Winning Actress ‘Obnoxious’ After the Failure of $6M Movie That Landed Him Worst Actor Nomination

It’s not always necessary that actors who work together also get along well. However, celebrities have rarely been vocal about their feuds with their fellow actors. But Anthony Hopkins and Shirley MacLaine are not among those celebrities who fake it to look good before the media.

Ever since their feud started, the two have been very blunt towards each other and have often passed vile comments and expressed their aversion towards each other.

Anthony Hopkins despises Shirley MacLaine

There is a slight difference when it’s said that two people don’t get along well and two people can’t stand each other. Latter is the case with Anthony Hopkins, as he shares the same feeling for Shirley MacLaine. The two actors once collaborated on the 1980 romantic comedy film A Change of Seasons, where they played an on-screen couple.

The film performed poorly at the box office and received negative reviews from critics. It was slammed so much that it was nominated for the Gloden Raspberry Awards. It is a parody award honoring the cinematic failure of the year. The film received nominations in three categories: worst song, worst screenplay, and worst actor, which went to Hopkins.

The existence of the whole film was futile, as it was neither liked by the viewers nor did the actors enjoy working together.

Both Hopkins and MacLaine never explained their feud. However, they had both always been very blunt while expressing their views on each other. Earlier, Hopkins passed a statement without mentioning anyone’s name, but it was reported that he threw shade on his co-star, MacLaine. The Marvel actor said,

“She was the most obnoxious actress I have ever worked with.”

The 85-year-old actor never explained the reason for this animosity.

The feeling of detestation was mutual

Anthony Hopkins isn’t the only one who dislikes Shirley MacLaine, as the feeling is mutual here. Previously, during an interview, MacLaine was asked about Hopkins’ comment, to which she responded by saying,

“I didn’t like him either, but he was on the wagon at that time and it was hard on him.”

The 89-year-old actress referred to Hopkins’ addiction to alcohol, but years later the actor got control over the intoxication. Earlier, during an interview, the actor admitted to having anger issues due to alcoholism. The actor said,

“The anger, you begin to channel it. I’m very happy I’m an alcoholic—it’s a great gift because wherever I go, the abyss follows me. It’s a volcanic anger you have, and it’s fuel. Rocket fuel. But of course, it can rip you to pieces and kill you.”

Where the actors claim to despise each other, they share a resemblance in their personalities. Where Hopkins struggles with anger issues, the Wild Oats actress is known for her straightforward personality, which perhaps may have resulted in fueling their rivalry.
