The highly anticipated film adaptation of Peaky Blinders is hopefully set to begin filming soon, bringing back the beloved gang from the hit TV series. Although the film will not change the conclusive ending of the sixth season, which marked the end of the main storyline, creator Steven Knight has confirmed that a movie is in the works. Knight previously hinted that Cillian Murphy’s character, Tommy Shelby, would play a role in the film, leaving fans speculating about the nature of his appearance. However, apart from the original cast, there seems to be an open invitation for one Hollywood actor to star in the film.
Apart from Cillian Murphy, the star-studded cast of Peaky Blinders includes top British talent such as Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Stephen Graham, and Vicky McClure. Knight expressed his desire to have Stephen Graham involved in the film, despite his limited presence in the series finale. Similarly, Vicky McClure, who had previously missed out on a role in the series, may have the opportunity to join the film cast. However, there is one more actor that Knight would love to bag for the project.
Steven Knight wants Tom Holland to join Peaky Blinders after rejecting him earlier
Interestingly, the actor who narrowly missed out on a role in Peaky Blinders was Tom Holland, currently known for his portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a video for LadBible, Holland revealed that he had auditioned for Peaky Blinders but didn’t secure a part. Holland said, “Actually auditioned for Peaky Blinders, and I did not get that part.”
However, eager to correct the oversight Knight extended an invitation to Holland for the film. While referring to Holland at a red carpet premiere of Peaky Blinders season six, Knight said that he would love to “have him” in the movie “if he wants to come back”.
While Knight has not revealed specific names, he confirmed that several members of the original series cast will return for the film. As fans eagerly await further details, the prospect of a Peaky Blinders movie promises to deliver more gripping storytelling and captivating performances from the ensemble cast.
What will the movie adaptation of Peaky Blinders be like?
While specific details about the plot of the Peaky Blinders film are scarce, it appears that the story will transition from the aftermath of the First World War to another major global conflict. Creator Steven Knight has hinted at an “untold story” involving the Peaky Blinders during the Second World War. In an interview with the Radio Times, Knight stated, “I know what’s going to happen in those stories, and it’s about a sort of untold story that happened in the Second World War, which Peakys are going to be involved in.”
Furthermore, Knight reiterated this point in an interview with Empire, emphasizing that the film will explore the end of the British Empire during and after the Second World War. He also revealed that he has expanded the scope of the film beyond the Second World War, expressing his desire to keep the energy and momentum of the Peaky Blinders universe going. This expansion may indicate the potential for further spin-offs or branches of the storytelling tree.
In another interview, Knight described the sixth series of the main show as “the end of the beginning,” hinting at the possibility of a larger franchise universe. While fans eagerly await more concrete information about the film’s plot, it is clear that with Steven Knight at the helm, audiences can anticipate an intriguing and expanded narrative that continues the legacy of the beloved series.
