Chris Pratt is the most notable actor in Marvel Studios’ films who was once sidelined when Kevin Feige’s superhero universe began taking shape with 2008’s Iron Man.
The road to Star-Lord had many disappointments for Chris Pratt as casting directors rejected him for multiple roles. To promote his latest – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Pratt attended the Jimmy Kimmel Live show in April and told the tale of his self-respect going down the rabbit hole.
Including Marvel Studios, Pratt initially lost out on 3 major franchises. Prior to making it big in the film industry, the actor waited tables and had a rough journey before James Gunn took notice of his potential and cast him in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
Jurassic World (2015), however, became the one film in Chris Pratt’s career that he didn’t have to undergo a harrowing struggle for. Star Trek and Avatar were both released in 2009 and rejected Pratt for the lead character, as he told Kimmel.
Chris Pratt Auditioned For A Supporting Role In Thor
Star-Lord brought Chris Pratt under the much-needed limelight as he cracked the character to fans’ liking. According to him, the character in the Guardians franchise wasn’t the only one he had auditioned for.
“Did you ever think like, ‘Oh, maybe I don’t want to play Star-Lord?’ Were there any concerns?” — asked Kimmel.
“No! God no! I mean I had been dying to… do something like that my whole career. I auditioned for Thor, not even to be Thor, but to be one of his sidekick guys,” – giggled Chris Pratt.
In the interview, Jimmy Kimmel highlighted that it wasn’t just Chris Hemsworth’s Thor (2011), but Pratt had auditioned for Chris Evans’ Captain America (2011) too!
Avatar and Star Trek Rejected Chris Pratt
J.J. Abrams and James Cameron didn’t want to cast Chris Pratt in their Star Trek and Avatar franchises. Marvel was shaping up its slate during those years and Pratt told Kimmel, after being rejected even there, he didn’t want to audition for them ever.
Jimmy Kimmel even asked Chris Pratt what would happen when rejections came his way and the latter proceeded to give the audience his side of the story.
“Usually, they give you a little bit of feedback. I auditioned for all of them, and it got to the point where I was never gonna audition for Marvel again. Anything that needed a guy that remotely looked like me and they would tell me, ‘That’s the last time we need to see you.’ It wasn’t just Marvel things, (not DC characters), but you know like, Star Trek or Avatar. Anything like, ‘This guy walks in and he’s got the it-factor.’ Over and over again, it was like, ‘Well, I definitely don’t have the it-factor they’re looking for.’”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to Pratt, was the last time we saw the “group of outcasts” band together.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 landed on Disney+ for streaming on August 2.
