“I decided to find other ways”: Unlike Christian Bale, Nicolas Cage Found A Genius Trick To Get Fat For His $32M Movie Without Eating Himself Into Oblivion

The industry is all about dynamism and adaptability, which goes for both the production companies and studios as well as the stars who make up the industry. For the stars, it has more to do with them as an individual, especially if they are given a specific role with specific requirements. While most may be able to achieve success in changing themselves, Nicolas Cage has proved just how different and better he is at this than the rest.

Giving some of the most unique and highly distinguished performances in all of his films throughout his career, the star has made a name for himself as one of the best the industry has to offer. And to do so, he keeps finding new ways to impress the audience. And unlike actors like Christian Bale, who rely on method acting for their performances, Cage takes a more laid-back approach.

Making a shift from being one of the biggest stars in the drama genre of films to becoming famous for his action films may have been a hard transition, but actor Nicolas Cage made it look easy. The overhaul of his persona for that change made everyone realize again just how versatile the actor truly is. And not just that, the star is also known for changing himself, whether it be physically or psychologically for his roles. One of the best examples of this is his role in his classic comedy-drama film Adaptation.

In a past interview with Total Film, the Ghost Rider star was asked about how he brought about the bulk in his appearance in the aforementioned film, to which he gave a very precise answer, saying that he didn’t take the orthodox approach. Instead of resorting to gaining weight by stuffing himself with as much food as he could, kind of like how English actor Christian Bale did for his role as Dick Cheney in Vice, the star used special effects and other methods to look heavier than he actually was during the shoot. He said:

“Except I approached it from a different angle. At this point I had already decided not to go down that path with the process so I went more Lon Chaney than De Niro on Adaptation. I decided to find other ways to create the fat effect without actually eating myself into oblivion. I had wires and different displacers built to push my cheeks out to make me look bigger.”

Therefore, through a little innovation and experience, the star was able to change himself physically without incurring any major health issues.
