Despite there being more than twenty James Bond movies, every single one has a different feel of its own. And what makes them even more special and unique are the opening theme songs that set the movies off. The entire song’s vibes matched with the movie’s overall theme end up making it memorable enough to be distinguished distinctly from all the others. Something similar happened on the sets of Skyfall (2012).
For one such theme song of a Daniel Craig James Bond movie, Adele was invited. And despite her being unsure if she could reach the expectations while creating a Bond song, the Hello singer ended up making the James Bond star forget he was a spy and bought him to literal tears.
The Adele Song That Brought Daniel Craig To Tears
This dates back to 2012 when director Sam Mendes brought Adele on board for making the theme song for Daniel Craig’s Skyfall. Since the James Bond actor had preferences of his own, everyone thought that it will take much tweaking before the Rolling in the Deep singer could actually create the perfect track for the movie.
However, the sight that unfolded was the exact opposite. As it turned out, Adele, being the exceptionally talented singer she is, curated a song so powerful that it not just exceeded Craig’s expectations, but even brought him to tears. Revealing his reaction, the No Time to Die star said,
“I cried. From the opening bars I knew immediately, then the voice kicked in and it was exactly what I’d wanted from the beginning. It just got better and better because it fitted the movie. In fact, the more of the movie we made, the more we fitted it.”
Thankfully, Adele perfectly fitted Daniel Craig’s preferences and made a theme song that was the perfect match for the movie without any changes whatsoever.
Adele Wasn’t Sure If She Could Write The Perfect Song For James Bond
While Daniel Craig couldn’t find a better song to match his movie’s theme, Adele, on the other hand, was unsure if she could create the song actually expected of her when she was getting on board. Recalling her hesitant reaction, director Sam Mendes said,
“She [Adele] came in very early before we started shooting and her main concern was ‘I write songs about myself, how can I make a Bond song?’ My answer was ‘just write a personal song’!”
As it turned out, the Easy on Me artist won everyone’s hearts with her fabulous voice coupled with captivatingly perfect lyrics. In fact, Daniel Craig liked it so much that he wanted her to sing the theme song for his next James Bond movie, Spectre. Adele, however, turned the offer down as she felt she couldn’t top her Skyfall song record, and the theme song for the 2015 movie ended up being scored by Sam Smith, with his song Writings on the Wall.
You can stream Skyfall on Netflix.
