Andy Samberg Could Not Refuse Sharing Screen Space With Kate Winslet
The biographical drama Lee directed by Ellen Kuras and starring Kate Winslet as the titular protagonist, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on the 9th of September, 2023. The film follows the inspirational journey of America’s first female photojournalist during World War 2, Lee Miller. The cast also included popular comedic actor Andy Samberg who plays Winslet’s colleague and confidant. The Saturday Night Live star spoke of his excitement on having bagged the role in a film that is also produced by the Titanic actor. Speaking to Vogue, Samberg said,
“I couldn’t say no to acting opposite Kate Winslet. She’s incredible. I knew this [movie] would be of a certain quality, no matter what, because of her.”
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star also lauded Winslet’s professionalism as a producer as well as being an understanding co-star and leader who tried to adapt and adjust to his schedules in order to accommodate time for the actor’s young kids.
Why Andy Samberg Was The Perfect Choice To Voice Scarlet Spider
Andy Samberg has a unique style of humor that is gregarious, funny, and delightfully over the top. The actor got the perfect opportunity to explore his comedic range when he was chosen to voice Ben Reilly’s Scarlet Spider in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This role fit Samberg like a glove as his entertaining performance turned Scarlet Spider’s dramatic backstory into pure comedy.
Scarlet Spider is also seen as an overly dramatic figure and this feature allowed the Palm Springs star to explore and improvise with abandon. Despite having only a minor role in the bigger picture of the narrative, Scarlet Spider’s potential importance within the Spider-Society could create a larger place for Samberg’s Spider-Man in the third installment of the Spider-Verse series. This character was also seen as quintessential Andy Samberg role and one that was totally in his niche as an actor.
