Three-time Oscar winner (been nominated for nine others), Jack Nicholson is one of Hollywood’s greatest stars. His best movies include Prizzi’s Honor, The Shooting, Chinatown, and the list goes on. His role as Joker alone earned a whopping $50 million back in the 1980s. And that’s just one accomplishment of his – there’s more to go.
The actor who’s highly known for his renowned performances, no doubt every new generation actor would love to have a word with him and gain insights from his experience. But then comes Pete Davidson, who turned down the chance to have a private conversation with the legendary star.
The Time When Pete Davidson Rejected Dinner With Jack Nicholson
Even though many movie fans would love to dine with the legendary Jack Nicholson, 29-year-old Pete Davidson (then 24 years old) surprisingly rejected the opportunity. He feared that he’d seem like a “dumb pot-head” in front of The Shining actor. Davidson shared this with Howard Stern in 2018 in an interview:
“We were in LA and he was having dinner with Jack Nicholson and Jon Hamm right and he was like ‘would you like to come?’ and I was like, ‘no.’”
Davidson went on to say:
“What am I gonna do? You guys are gonna have conversations about stuff you could relate with and I’m gonna be like ‘hey, what was the Cuckoo’s Nest like?’”
Despite being a huge fan of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest star, Davidson couldn’t gather the courage to have dinner with him — though he had a very specific reason.
“I can’t live with Jack Nicholson hating me”– Pete Davidson
It looks like Davidson was clearly scared that the legendary American actor would think poorly of him. He later stated:
“I can’t live with Jack Nicholson hating me.”
Davidson believed that the actor might perceive the situation while being in the company of his friends, Michaels and Hamm:
“Why is the dumb pot-head at our billion-dollar table.”
As the Big Time Adolescence actor said, he couldn’t imagine a scenario where his idol disliked him anyway. Howard Stern clearly understood the situation of Davidson and agreed with him.
Being a famous American media personality, Stern has stated that he’s been in the same situation countless times. Just like the young actor, he also usually overthinks his interactions with such famous personalities.
It definitely can be harrowing for Davidson when some of his childhood idols end up hating him. Although, the situation could have been totally opposite too, but on the safer side, Davidson didn’t want to put himself in those shoes.
