Emily Blunt’s Experience While Filming Edge Of Tomorrow With Tom Cruise

Emily Blunt has experience in dealing with difficulties thanks to her strong roles in action films like Sicario, A Quiet Place, and Jungle Cruise. She did, however, face some challenges while filming Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise.

The actress, who is known for playing a variety of roles, once shared a behind-the-scenes story from her time filming Edge of Tomorrow. In an interview with Conan O’Brien on the CONAN chat show, Blunt recalled the tense scene in which she was “doing a one-armed yoga” while holding herself up with “one hand” and her entire body was “parallel, planked”:

“I couldn’t do it at the beginning. I had to train for ages to do it.”

She then acknowledged that she had

“To hold it for a long time. They put a little wire on my ankles.”

The actress, 40, further recalled a vivid scene when she “snapped” Cruise:

“We were kind of rehearsing the scene and Tom took a little too long with his line coming in. It was the only time I snapped at him. I went, ‘You’ve got to be quicker with the line because I can’t hold it that long’.”

And Cruise was like:

Oh, god, I am so sorry.”

On the SmartLess podcast, Emily Blunt discussed how she broke down in tears the moment she put on her 85-pound Edge of Tomorrow suit.

The 2014 action film, directed by Doug Liman, starred Tom Cruise and Blunt as soldiers who fight an alien race in the distant future. The actress recalled:

“We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way. When you hear the word ‘tactile,’ you think that sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about these suits. It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started to cry, and [Cruise] didn’t know what to do.”

Cruise, according to Blunt, “stared at her,” and:

“I was like, ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and just started to cry. I said, ‘I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot.’ He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p***y, ok?’”

What about the Edge of Tomorrow sequel? Blunt was currently pessimistic about the possibility of a sequel for one particular financial reason as she stated the following in an interview with CinemaBlend

“We wanted to. Honestly, I think the movie’s too expensive. Yeah, I don’t know how we’re going to do it. I think that it’s hard to align everyone’s schedules. I would love it. [Director] Doug Liman would love it. Tom would love it. We’d all love to do it, but I think until we figure out what’s going on with the industry – honestly, I think we need to figure out what is the next road map for the kinds of films that people want to make.”
