Deadpool 2 was one movie that managed to hit the fans with the same level of enthusiasm as its predecessor had. Ryan Reynolds’ iconic film series is one that is not unheard of. The way the story evolves is one that is unique and fun in a memorable way. Whether it is the cast, the characters, or even the jokes, everything has its own way of leaving an impression in the movies.
The heavy responsibility that was put on the director for the sequel was one that he could not let pass without thought. Casting side characters is just as important as casting villains. When it comes to casting some prominent and iconic side characters, David Leitch was ready to go above and beyond to make sure he gave his best.
Deadpool 2 Director Regretted Casting Michael Shannon
Deadpool 2 director David Leitch took his time when it came to casting for the much-loved film. Cable was one character Josh Brolin pulled off incredibly well. He got praise just as deservingly for it. However, the role was almost given to someone else; Michael Shannon. The Man of Steel actor had already been cast and was ready to take on the role before he dropped it ultimately.
“He actually almost was Cable. Then there was some sort of hiccup conflict at the very last minute, and then we just ended up reconnecting on this one, and felt really lucky that this was the role for him. Because Josh [Brolin] was so good as Cable, I can’t even imagine [what that would have been like].”
The role was up for grabs for Brolin after Shannon left at the last minute. According to the director, it was only because of the conflicts that the actor faced that he managed to get an actor as skilled as the Infinity War star to work with him.
Why Did Michael Shannon Leave Deadpool 2?
Michael Shannon had to leave Deadpool 2 because of conflicts in his schedule. Although he was looking forward to working on the project, his previously committed projects were in much need of his attention. However, Shannon was not the only one who was eyed to play Cable. Not only were David Harbour and Josh Brolin in consideration, but even Brad Pitt was one of the top choices for the role.
Had it not been for Shannon’s busy schedule, Brolin would have missed out on an incredible opportunity allowing him to play not just the Supervillain Thanos but also the fan-favorite Cable.
