Brad Pitt On The Underlying Competition With Tom Cruise
Brad Pitt shared in an interview that he always felt this subtle sense of competition while working alongside the Mission Impossible star. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star emphasized that their personalities are completely different, resulting in a lack of compatibility between them. While the competition was not hostile in any manner yet it hindered the meaningful conversations between the two stars.
“You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions. He’s the North Pole. I’m South. He’s coming at you with a handshake. where I may bump into you, I may not, you know. I always thought there was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation. It wasn’t nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there and it bugged me a bit. But I’ll tell you, he catches a lot of shit because he’s on top, but he’s a good actor and he advances in the film. He did it. I mean, you have to respect that.”
Brad Pitt On Constantly Being Surrounded By Darkness
The experience of portraying the character Louis in Interview with the Vampire proved to be more psychologically draining for Brad Pitt than he had anticipated. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star candidly expressed his misery while working on the film adding that the gloomy shooting location in Pinewood Studios, with its lack of natural light and oppressive atmosphere, impacted his well-being. The prolonged periods spent in darkness added to his discontent. These overwhelming circumstances led Pitt to contemplate quitting the project, seeking an escape from this dark environment. However, the superstar was presented with a hefty amount to pay before he could leave the film.
“I am miserable. Six months in the f**king dark. Contact lenses, makeup, I’m playing the b*tch role…We’re shooting in Pinewood (Studios), which is an old institution There’s no windows in there. You leave for work in the dark – you go into this cauldron, this mausoleum – and then you come out and it’s dark. One day, it broke me… I called David Geffen, who was a producer… I said, ‘David, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t do it. How much will it take to get me out?’ And he goes, very calmly, ‘Forty million dollars’.”
It looks like Brad Pitt’s collaboration with Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire was not without its challenges. The Bullet Train star’s words shed light on the demanding nature of his role in the film.
