August Alsina had Will Smith’s blessings to date Jada Pinkett Smith
The whole controversy came to the limelight when rapper August Alsina shared about dating Jada Pinkett Smith during an interview with The Breakfast Club. He shared details about his relationship with the actress, who was already married to Will Smith.
Alsina said,
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
The singer alleged that he had taken permission from Will Smith to date his wife.
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing.”
Reportedly, the duo dated for a few years when Pinkett Smith and the Independence Day star separated for some time.
August Alsina and Jada Pinkett Smith’s relationship
August Alsina was introduced to the Smith family by Jaden Smith. They also vacationed together in Hawaii. The rapper shared that he became close to Will Smith’s wife during that time and he fell in love with her. The 43-year-old actress met the 22-year-old rapper in 2015.
He shared,
“I really loved a person, I experienced that, and I know what that feels like — and some people never get that in this lifetime.”
The Bad Moms actress had initially not accepted the relationship, however, in an episode of her show Red Table Talk with Will Smith, she admitted to dating August Alsina for a while. The couple clarified that it happened when they were separated for some time in 2015 and were trying to figure out their happiness.
Will Smith revealed that, at the time, it seemed like their marriage was not going to work,
“I was done with your ass. I was done with you. Marriages have that though. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll try to figure out how to make myself happy. I really felt like we could be over.”
Will addresses had later addressed rumors about him and Jada headed toward divorce, with a Facebook post where he refers to Jada as his queen. Jada also took to Twitter and simply said,
“My king has spoken.”
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith reunited soon after 2015 and have been together since then.
