There have been many actors who have brought the character of Superman to life, and one of them is Henry Cavill.
The actor became the face of the Superman film series by appearing in the 2013 film, Man of Steel. Cavill aced his performance as Superman so well that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the character. Jamie Dornan is popularly known for his portrayal of Christian Grey in the erotic drama film trilogy, Fifty Shades. The actor’s versatility seems to have no end, as he also once auditioned for the role of Superman. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the role, but the story behind it is something Dornan can laugh at whenever he looks behind it.
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the actor revealed that he auditioned for Man of Steel but failed miserably. Dornan was asked about which superhero roles he has auditioned for, to which Dornan replied by mentioning that he screen-tested for Superman’s role.
During the conversation, Horowtiz inquisitively asked Dornan if he could manage to get into the suit of Superman by acing the auditions, to which Dornan replied,
“I brought my own suit there, was that a mistake?”
Horowtiz was startled to know that Dornan actually wore his underoos for the auditions. To which Dornan clarified by claiming that it wasn’t an actual suit; rather, he simply wore “Superman pajamas.“
Call it Dornan’s casual approach or his passion for Superman, neither proved successful in securing him the role. However, there are still chances to see Dornan in a superhero suit, as Marvel Cinematic Universe may soon introduce the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, which might come with an opportunity to play major superhero roles. Similarly, even the DCU is planning on introducing new characters to the franchise.
Jamie Dornan: The Potential Face of Upcoming Superhero Films
DC’s current situation is not a secret for fans. The franchise is currently facing constant box-office failure, and now the makers have decided to take a swing to revive the franchise. Among various upcoming projects is Andy Muschietti’s directorial film The Brave and the Bold.
The film is set to bring a fresh wave to the franchise, as it has been reported that it may feature some new faces in the franchise. The movie will revolve around the story of Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman, who meets his son Damian and bonds with him. Many actors have been considered for the role of Batman, and Dornan can be one of them.
Apart from that, there are chances that Dornan may appear as Green Lantern Hal Jordan in Max’s Lanterns series. So Dornan shouldn’t feel disheartened after losing Superman’s role, as various great opportunities await him.
