Late actor Kevin Conroy was indeed a supporter of the DC Animated Universe. The actor supported an NSFW joke that was too adult for the kids that were the target audience of the movie.
Talking about an s*x scene that was featured in the movie, Conroy stated that he appreciated the controversial scene and the way it traumatized viewers. Batman: The Killing Joke which featured several R-rated scenes was too much for some people to bear but not for Kevin Conroy.
Kevin Conroy Appreciated The Controversial Scenes
The 2016 animated movie Batman: The Killing Joke featured a storyline for mature audiences rather than children or teenagers. The movie was a controversial one since there were a number of violent and s*x scenes depicted during the 1-hour 16-minute runtime of the movie.
Veteran actor and voice actor Kevin Conroy voiced the character of Batman for a number of years before his recent untimely death that left the DCAU bereft. An interview of the late actor has been in the talks on the Internet for his controversial statements that seemed to defend the movie (rightfully so!).
Kevin Conroy was reportedly heard stating that he appreciated the controversial theme of the movie and supported the s*x scenes and violence since they were essentially necessary.
“It wasn’t that I wasn’t happy with it, it just was that I was aware of how controversial it was. I appreciated that a lot of people were disturbed. I wasn’t, but I just appreciated the fact that people were.”
This wasn’t all since Conroy did admit that they went out of their way of making a child-friendly Batman into what Batman: The Killing Joke came out to be.
“So The Killing Joke, the issue I had was that — it was a great, mature story for Batman/Joker, but I know that a lot of the audience is still under 12, and that’s rough. That’s a rough story for people that young.”
Kevin Conroy was also a symbol of pride for the people since he declared his sexuality a long time ago. The actor lost his life to cancer following which people all around the world mourned the loss of a great actor and the best voice actor for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DCAU.
Who Will Replace Kevin Conroy?
Well, the show must go on. With the DCAU going further to continue depicting storylines based on the comics, it seems a matter of importance that a voice actor for the role of Batman be appointed. With multiple actors who have been potentially nominated for the job, it seems that Troy Baker seems to be a good choice for the role.
The voice actor has previously voiced the role of Batman and Joker when Conroy or other actors were not available. With hopes that the new voice actor will pay tribute to Kevin Conroy, the people wait ecstatically for the arrival of the new Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DC Animated Universe.
