Modern Family was one of the most popular sitcoms that connected with audiences worldwide for the quirky family dynamics between the characters. Modern Family star Ariel Winter played a prominent role as the extremely intelligent and sincere Alex Dunphy in the popular sitcom Modern Family. Winter who was a mainstay in the show, spent all of her growing years on set from age 11 to becoming an adult. Naturally, the young actor’s physical appearance also went through many awkward changes as she hit puberty.
But fans of the show were not so kind to Winter and brutally criticized her changing body which forced the star to undergo breast reduction surgery. The child actor also spoke about the insecurity she felt on hearing these comments and confessed that she hated seeing herself on screen especially in one of her most awkward seasons.
“I especially hated the year I had braces. I do have to say it was a really awkward year for me because I also went through puberty that summer. So I had episodes with me in braces and then over the summer, once we wrapped, I had other things, and I looked different”.
Despite all the negativity surrounding her body image, Ariel Winter confessed that she took all the criticisms in her stride thanks to cast members like Sofia Vergara and others who surrounded the set with positive vibes and lent their support.
Sofia Vergara Played Mentor To Ariel Winter On Modern Family Set
A child star navigating the vagaries of life on a television show set can be extremely challenging. Modern Family actor Ariel Winter went through these vulnerable moments while filming the popular sitcom. The star who was 11 years old when she entered the set, faced brutal trolling from viewers for her changing body as she hit puberty. Fortunately, she had a fantastic mentor in her co-star Sofia Vergara, who put things in perspective for the young actor.
“I had a great role model in Sofia [Vergara] growing up, with her being a curvy woman that was superproud of who she was and what she looked like. She could see that I was struggling a little bit with how to deal with my body and was always trying to give me advice, like, ‘Here are some brands that would look good on our body type’ or ‘Wear whatever you want and feel good about yourself.’”
Sofia Vergara also ensured that Ariel Winter exuded confidence about the way she looked and advised her to be proud of her figure and embrace it with pride.
