However, the actor felt “embarrassed” to fall in love with his wife and actress Deborra-Lee Furness. It was, for him, “ridiculous and cliched” to fall for the “leading lady.” Jackman and Furness married in 1996 and adopted children Oscar and Ava.
Why It Was embarrassing for Hugh Jackman to Fall in Love with his Wife?
Over the years, the couple frequently walked the red carpet together, and Hugh Jackman never seemed hesitant to talk about their relationship when asked about it. They first met after being cast in the Correlli series. At that time Deborra-Lee Furness was a much bigger star than Hugh Jackman.
The 54-year-old actor confessed to PEOPLE:
“Deb, she was a big star. I get picked up, and Deb is in the front seat of the car. I’ll never forget. She took off her seatbelt and she turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-Lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl.’”
He continued to say that they had both already become best friends and that he had a crush on her. He said:
“This is the thing you do not do. It’s unprofessional and embarrassing.”
He said [as per Female First report]: “We got on well with each other from the start. And it was a situation where it seemed so ridiculous and clichéd and embarrassing and infantile, the whole thing where this was my first big acting job and here I am falling in love with the leading lady.”
And, the couple announced on Friday, Sept. 15, that they are separating after 27 years of marriage.
