'Hope Avatar 3 flops': Spiteful Marvel Fans Are So Vexed By Avatar 2 Toppling No Way Home They are Hoping James Cameron's Threequel Crashes and Burns

Since its opening in December last year, Avatar 2 has been steadily climbing up the box office charts. Prior to its release, James Cameron shared that the sequel to the 2009 science fiction film would need to be among the highest-grossing film to be considered a hit. Considering the pandemic’s impact on the box office collection of films, many believed that the sequel would end up being the last film in the franchise.

However, box office results seem to suggest otherwise, as The Way of Water has already crossed the $1.9 billion mark. There are also speculations that it would also top $2 billion in the upcoming weeks. And now it has taken over one of Marvel’s films to be the sixth highest-grossing film of all time.

Marvel Fans Are Wishing For the Avatar Threequel to Flop

James Cameron has planned the whole Avatar franchise with Disney. The director is planning to release three more follow-up films under the franchise in 2024, 2026, and 2028. However, earlier he shared that the upcoming film’s fate will be decided after the release of Avatar 2.

And considering its performance at the box office, he would probably move ahead with his plans for the upcoming films in the series. However, as The Way of Water took over Marvel’s one of the highest-grossing films, Marvel fans shared their thoughts on social media.

While many are congratulating the filmmaker and are happy with the film breaking the box office records, not everyone thinks that the sequel is better than No Way Home. Marvel fans have even started wishing for the threequel in the franchise to be a flop. One fan shared, “I hope Avatar 3 flops.”

People also discussed that Avatar 2 may cross the threshold, but that might not be the possibility for the upcoming films in the franchise. The longtime fan war between Avatar and Marvel fans once again started as they claimed that Marvel’s Infinity War and Endgame are still better than Avatar 2.
