James Mangold is a talented filmmaker with multiple laureates to his name. An acclaimed filmmaker, Mangold has gained a wide fanbase for telling compelling and gripping storytelling. Hence when the news of The Wolverine director in charge of the last installment of the Indiana Jones franchise surfaced, fans had their expectations set sky-high seeing the record of Mangold’s terrific career.

However, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny failed to live up to its expectations and has been regarded as one of the worst films in the entire franchise. The Harrison Ford starrer movie completely lacks the nuance and action sequence of the earlier movies. Devoid of the ‘Indiana Jones‘ feel, it felt forced, lacking, and preposterous as most fans called it.

Unlike the earlier movies which were focused on appealing to and attracting younger audiences, this movie felt more like a personal affair among the hardcore Indiana Jones fans, who would love it for the love of the franchise rather than for its individual brilliance.

Hence, there remains no doubt that the movie failed as miserably as it did. Furthermore, James Mangold’s failure with Indiana Jones seems to have made fans doubt whether he could redeem himself as a director with a new Star Wars movie.
