James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been officially labeled as the worst Indiana Jones movie ever. After the fourth installment’s box-office performance, fans had been hoping the fifth one would keep the streak going, but that hardly seems to be the case.
While die-hard fans were keen to see the legendary Harrison Ford star as Indiana Jones for the last time, others have not been too keen. And it seems the minimal good rating on Rotten Tomatoes has only been due to the few good faithful fans of the franchise.
Fans Regard Indiana Jones 5 James Mangold’s Career Suicide
James Mangold is a talented filmmaker with multiple laureates to his name. An acclaimed filmmaker, Mangold has gained a wide fanbase for telling compelling and gripping storytelling. Hence when the news of The Wolverine director in charge of the last installment of the Indiana Jones franchise surfaced, fans had their expectations set sky-high seeing the record of Mangold’s terrific career.
However, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny failed to live up to its expectations and has been regarded as one of the worst films in the entire franchise. The Harrison Ford starrer movie completely lacks the nuance and action sequence of the earlier movies. Devoid of the ‘Indiana Jones‘ feel, it felt forced, lacking, and preposterous as most fans called it.
Unlike the earlier movies which were focused on appealing to and attracting younger audiences, this movie felt more like a personal affair among the hardcore Indiana Jones fans, who would love it for the love of the franchise rather than for its individual brilliance.
Hence, there remains no doubt that the movie failed as miserably as it did. Furthermore, James Mangold’s failure with Indiana Jones seems to have made fans doubt whether he could redeem himself as a director with a new Star Wars movie.
Fans Don’t Want James Mangold To Make A Star Wars Movie
After James Mangold’s epic failure, he has been facing a lot of backlash for even thinking about making a Star Wars movie. In a recent interview, the celebrated director revealed that he wanted to make an individual Boba Fett movie that would have been R-rated. Ever since the news hit the world of social media, there seems to be a storm of opposition and blatant criticism.
Fans have been calling Mangold out and claiming that he does not need to make any Star Wars movie since it would also be a failure seeing his recent feat as a director with the Indiana Jones film. While others have claimed they don’t want another beloved franchise destroyed.
