Patrick Hughes directed The Expendables 3, which provided non-stop thrills. However, it was the chaotic events that occurred behind the scenes that truly captivated the audience. Jason Statham is widely known for his daring stunts, but fate had a surprise in store for him during a critical action scene.

In the scene, his character was driving a massive three-ton truck at tremendous speed. However, a sudden glitch caused the brakes to fail, and the truck plunged into the frigid Black Sea with Statham still strapped to his seat. This was no longer a scripted sequence, but a genuine life-or-death situation.

In conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Statham recounted how shocked he was to see Sylvester Stallone not struggling in the sea.

“At that point Jimmy, I mean you do really understand who your friends are. So, I’m looking around, […] where’s Sly? He, you know, stood on the side of the dock with his iPhone. Jason, you need a towel?”

Statham relied on his survival instincts to fight against time, water, and panic in a heart-stopping struggle. The actor emerged victorious, gasping for air and earning applause from his co-stars, the sea, and the jaws of disaster.

“He faced death. He was test-driving a three-ton truck and the brakes run out. t went down 60ft into the Black Sea and became impaled. Luckily we had taken the doors off before. If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts. We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it.”

While his on-screen heroics may have given fans the impression of invincibility, Statham’s own mettle was put to the ultimate test and he proved himself to be a true hero.

Statham’s successful escape from danger showcased his incredible abilities, but it was Sylvester Stallone, his co-star and fellow legend, who added a humorous touch to the situation. His playful comment injected some levity into the intense moment.

Stallone’s comment wasn’t just a funny story, it showed how close these famous actors are. They formed a special bond through the dangerous and risky stunts they did together. This turned them from co-stars to close friends who understood each other without even speaking.
