Fans have reacted favorably to the live-action adaptation of the iconic anime series One Piece. The series, based on Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, has done its utmost to stick to the original script and be as grounded as possible. The series’ creators, Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, worked hard and succeeded thanks to the strong influence of Oda-san himself. Since its premiere, the eight-episode series has gotten well-deserved praise and is trending all over the internet. The cast of the series includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Emily Rudd’s Experience Meeting Eiichiro Oda

Rudd plays Nami, the navigator of Luffy’s Straw Hat crew and a former member of the Arlong Pirates, in Netflix’s live-action version of the famous anime and manga. Emily Rudd admits that meeting Oda was a terrifying experience. In an interview with Collider, Emily Rudd discussed meeting the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, and how she was afraid to the core. She said:

“I also was able to meet Oda Sensei and it was easily the most scared I’ve ever been in my whole life. He’s a lovely dude, but, he’s kind of like a god, you know? So, I was like, ‘Oh man, I can’t. Hello, it’s so nice to meet you,’ I’m like just shaking.”

Rudd also explained the amount of respect she has for Oda san, as he has not only created an adventurous story but also a grounded newfound family tale.

Emily Rudd’s Opinion About Eiichiro Oda

Talking to GamesRadar+, Rudd explained what she felt about the story and Oda san himself. She talked about how the genius mind of Oda brought to life one of the most exhilarating stories ever. She said:

“First of all, Oda-sensei is an absolute genius and, you know, it’s kind of hard to argue against genius. He did such an incredible, masterful job at creating a story that is not only wacky, crazy, playful, and adventurous, but also so grounded and real. It has a lot of heart. It’s a story about found family. It’s a story about freedom, and pursuing your dreams. And I think that that is something that people can universally connect to.”

Rudd’s character Nami is one of the most important characters of the series, and Arlong Park mostly focuses on her story, therefore she got to showcase her talent in some of the most emotional and adventurous scenes and fans love her for it.
