Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter is probably most people’s number one superhero. His excellent portrayal of the popular fictional character is etched in our minds and there can be no other actor who can pay it better than he did. Despite the immense popularity he still enjoys, Radcliffe isn’t a fan of his fictional character but would rather have starred as Spider-Man, which also is his favorite role ever.
In an interview, the star talked about his love for Spider-Man, and how jealous he is of Tobey Maguire to have played the incredible web-slinger.

Daniel Radcliffe played the most popular wizard in the history of cinema and books. His portrayal of Harry Potter gave him a level be fame that can hardly ever be replicated by any other actor. He was the perfect amount of innocent and arrogant, brave, and ambitious as the book Potter. Despite the unbelievable fame, Radcliffe exclaimed that it wasn’t a role he fancied.
Tobey Maguire on the other hand played Peter Parker aka your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in what was the first Spider-Man franchise. His portrayal and franchise are credited with setting the foundation for future ventures into the superhero realm and making universes like MCU and DC possible.
While both the roles and franchise remain iconic, the Harry Potter franchise and the character by far outshines Maguire’s Spider-Man. Even with the clear difference, Radcliffe once said,
“I was always unbelievably jealous of Tobey Maguire playing Spider-Man. I do think Spidey is the coolest of superheroes.”
He then mentioned his love for the character and stated it would have been amazing to get the opportunity to play the famous web-slinger once in his life.
Daniel Radcliffe Liked Playing Harry Potter Despite Him Not Being Cool
While most would find Harry Potter incredibly cool, the star himself isn’t a fan of the character. While comparing Spider-Man and the young wizard prodigy, Radcliffe stated that while Potter wasn’t the coolest, he was a very interesting hero to play.
“That he’s not perfect. He’s capable of being quite arrogant, pigheaded and a little bit selfish. He can make himself something of a martyr when he really doesn’t have to. All those characteristics are wonderful because it separates Harry from archetypal superheroes that you often get.”
He stated while subtly acknowledging that Potter was nothing less of a superhero, albeit being an ‘unconventional’ one.
The Harry Potter franchise can be streamed on HBO Max, while the Spider-Man franchise is available on Disney+.
