Eva Longoria Made Her Directorial Debut With Flamin’ Hot
Starting her career by flipping burgers at Wendy’s, Eva Longoria achieved a surprising rise to fame. The Hollywood actress who is well known for her role in the dramatic series, Desperate Housewives, made her way into the film industry with roars of cheering from the crowd, overnight.
Longoria’s serious ambition helped her make her television debut in Beverly Hills 90210 (1990), and ever since then she never had to look back. Finding her dream career in Hollywood, the 48-year-old actress pursued the job of entertaining her audiences. And after years of experience as an actress, Eva Longoria finally dipped her hands in the directorial zone to try something new.
Although the actress faced initial resistance, Longoria made a concerted effort to pursue directing. Thus, the Desperate Housewives star released her feature film debut, Flamin’ Hot, on June 9th, 2023. However, surprisingly Eva Longoria had a particular reason to venture into the directorial zone, despite making a hard-earned reputation as an actress.
Eva Longoria Slammed Hollywood’s Portrayal Of Latinos
Following the release of her feature film, Flamin’ Hot, Eva Longoria recalled how she was treated in the entertainment sector. Criticizing Hollywood for the negative portrayal of Latinos, the 48-year-old began stating her reasons to The Hollywood Reporter during an interview. “I was like, ‘I can’t breathe,’. I had PTSD from 24 episodes a year” Longoria spoke about her Desperate Housewives shooting schedule.
Feeling resentment for her character, and the way Hollywood often portrayed her as a brainless s*x symbol, Eva Longoria discussed the film industry’s way of under-representation of people of color. Thus, willing to rectify the issues herself, the 48-year-old actress wished to venture into directing. Harboring ambitions to produce and direct, Longoria discussed her journey from acting to behind the camera. Eva Longoria recalled,
“The industry’s definitely wary of an actor coming in [to direct]. For me, it was about overcoming that. It wasn’t s*xism or racism. It was like, ‘Here comes a dumb actor.’”
Thus, the actress began to slowly venture into directing to make her own recognition and prove her capabilities. After previously serving as a producer, Eva Longoria moved on to take the directing credits. “It was much easier to start in my own backyard” the actress stated. Thereafter, Longoria got into the habit of directing projects under her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner.
