Cavill, who is also known as a proud nerd, has given some of his performances as DC superhero Superman and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher.
The 39-year-old actor first took the role in The Witcher’s first season and left everyone stunned with his performance. However, viewers were not the only ones who were highly impressed with his portrayal of the monster hunter. According to the writer and showrunner, they decided to cut out his dialogue as he was able to resonate so much without even saying anything.
The Witcher Showrunners Cut Down Henry Cavill’s Dialogues
Considering that Henry Cavill is a big fan of The Witcher book series and games, he wanted to make sure that he got the role. The Justice League star was also very excited about the show and said that it was like a “dream come true” for him.
He gave his best, and the series, and his performance both were highly praised after its release. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich also shared that Cavill did not even need dialogues to convey what Geralt felt. The showrunner described that Geralt had “a lot of lines” in the first episode. But they started cutting out some scenes during editing. She said,
“Henry brings subtleties to this character, finding emotional resonance in small moments, and playing it in such a subtle way that you understand what the character is going through without necessarily having huge chunks of dialogue.”
As they went on with the show, the makers decided to cut down Geralt’s dialogues as Cavill was able to express everything with his acting. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich shared that they did not shoot Geralt’s “half the dialogue” as she knew that The Witcher actor could do so much more with his character without any dialogue.
Henry Cavill Made Sure He Got the Lead Role in The Witcher
Henry Cavill has shared multiple times his love for The Witcher, and it was also reported to be the reason he decided to quit the show. When he learned that Netflix was developing a series based on The Witcher, he decided to approach the streaming giant himself.
The Dawn of Justice star constantly bugged his agent to get a meeting with Netflix, and he was able to meet the show maker Lauren Schmidt. However, she had not started her work on the script and refused to discuss anything further on casting him as the mutated monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia.
After completing the script, Lauren Schmidt tested more than 200 actors, but she wasn’t able to find the right actor for the role before Cavill auditioned for the part. Although he was rejected initially, he was glad that the makers went through a process to find the perfect actor for portraying Geralt of Rivia, as the character is very close to his heart. Cavil portrayed Geralt in two seasons and is all set to reprise his role third and last time in The Witcher season 3.
All the seasons of The Witcher are available to stream on Netflix.
The Witcher season 3 is set to release in two volumes. Volume 1 will premiere on June 29, 2023, and Volume 2 will premiere on July 27, 2023.
