Millie Bobby Brown, who found fame with the Netflix series – Stranger Things at the young age of 12, found another big break working alongside Man of Steel star Henry Cavill in the Netflix film, Enola Holmes (2020).
Speaking with CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell last year during the release of the sequel on November 4, Brown revealed that there is actually a person really close to her that she had in mind while she was shown to be breaking the fourth wall.
Brown became an internet sensation for her character’s major quirk, which is, looking directly into the camera. The theater term for doing that is, breaking the fourth wall.
While the audience wondered what could be the reason behind her doing that so often, she confessed that she spoke directly to her mother. Not Helena Bonham Carter’s Eudoria Holmes, but her actual mother!
Millie Bobby Brown On Talking Directly To Her Mother
Brown, becoming a part of Sherlock Holmes’ world, or rather Holmes becoming a part of hers, had a big responsibility. Although Enola Holmes was introduced only in 2006 with the book – The Case of the Missing Marquess, she managed to take creative liberties with it by breaking the fourth wall.
“Actually it’s funny, no one ever has asked me that question, so you are a first,” she said to O’Connell. “Yeah, I always think about my mum, I always think about talking to my mum.”
According to a USA Today interview, Brown said during a Q&A that she came up with it while filming as she had a dream about being on the sets of Stranger Things, and now she’s “so obsessed with it.”
Millie Bobby Brown Loved Breaking The Fourth Wall
During the New York premiere of Enola Holmes 2, Variety got in touch with Millie Bobby Brown to talk about breaking the fourth wall. The first film introduced the quirk, the sequel took it far, she said.
“Maybe Harry [Director] can agree with me on this but I think in every scene we tried doing, we tried breaking the fourth wall and then he edited the ones that landed the most. It’s just like the most perfect way to break the fourth wall with her wit, her humor, her timing.”
Netflix hasn’t yet greenlit the threequel, but the sequel topped the charts and gained 64 million hours of viewership in just 6 days of its release, according to Mashable.
The Enola Holmes franchise is streaming on Netflix.
