Witnessing his inspiration appear to him in the form of a bodybuilder cum actor, Reg Park, Schwarzenegger decided to follow in his footsteps.
Opening up about getting fascinated by Reg Park in a movie theatre, Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned how he saw Park’s images everywhere in the city. Coming across Mr. Universe Reg Park’s fitness regime, the 75-year-old mentioned dedicating himself and preparing for the glory.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Introduction To Reg Park
Arnold Schwarzenegger, being in the entertainment industry for more than three decades, has been offering advice from his acting and bodybuilding career. However, the seven-time Mr. Olympia evidently received his inspiration and advice from another. Often mentioning his idol and mentor Reg Park, Schwarzenegger even opened up about Mr. Universe in his 2023 miniseries Arnold.
Discussing his prime years in the pilot episode of Arnold, the 75-year-old veteran actor spoke diligently about watching the handsome hunk Reg Park everywhere. Initially introduced to Park through a movie poster, Arnold Schwarzenegger later mentioned watching him play the role of Hercules. Mesmerized by his charisma, the 75-year-old felt heavily inspired by the actor.
Further, getting to spot Reg Park on a magazine cover, Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned, “One day after school, I walked by a store in Graz. So I went inside and I looked around and then I saw a magazine.” Discussing in his miniseries how Park was everywhere, Schwarzenegger stated, “It was a bodybuilding magazine that had Reg Park on the cover. Reg Park was then a three-time Mr. Universe, and I saw him on the big screen as Hercules”
Arnold Schwarzenegger Was Heavily Inspired By Reg Park
Watching Reg Park being everywhere, from big screens to magazine covers, Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned knowing at the exact moment, what he wanted to do with his life. Heavily inspired by Park, the 75-year-old felt lucky to have figured out what he wanted to do with his life. Setting a goal to achieve, Schwarzenegger started working towards it.
“I read that and said to myself, ‘Wow! This is the blueprint for my life. This is exactly what I want to do. I want to become a bodybuilding champion just like Reg Park. I want to get into movies just like Reg Park. And I want to make millions of dollars and be rich and famous just like Reg Park.’” Schwarzenegger stated.
Later becoming a world-class bodybuilder, and an award-winning actor in box office hits like The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed his feelings about setting a goal at a young age. “I knew where I was going. That I’m going to become this body-building champion just like him…When you have a goal, when you have a vision, everything becomes easy.” the 75-year-old stated.
Building an astounding career in the entertainment sector as well as the fitness industry, Arnold Schwarzenegger has become one of the most renowned Hollywood names. However, he believes, he can never thank Reg Park enough who served as his inspiration and convinced him to leave Austria to set a career in America.
