Harrison Ford Claims Tom Clancy Wasn’t a Fan of His Portrayal of Jack Ryan
In a candid interview, Harrison Ford revealed that Tom Clancy was not pleased with him portraying Jack Ryan in the sequel to the 1990 submarine spy thriller. According to his bombshell revelation, the actor claimed that Clancy thought he was too old to play the character, as Ford was 50 years old when he received the offer to work in the movie.
The Six Days, Seven Nights movie star told People magazine, “Tom Clancy never liked me in the part,” adding, “He thought I was too old, and I think he had other objections, but I don’t remember what they were.”
The Patriot Games movie star once shared his decision to sign the movie, claiming,
”I thought if I didn’t use my license to do action-adventure, then pretty soon it wouldn’t be viable.”
He continued,
”I don’t think the executives ever stopped thinking of me in terms of action adventures. But I kept turning them down because of their overweening violence or because they lacked ambition. I wanted to deal with ideas within the context of action.”
