Tom Cruise has already built a formidable image due to his crazy Mission: Impossible saga’s action sequences which are interestingly quite difficult to execute. He was joined by Hollywood heartthrob, Henry Cavill in 2018’s Mission Impossible: Fallout which saw him carrying the movie alongside the lead star. Both the duo impressed the global audience with their insane chemistry and daring flicks which was enthralling even on screen.
Real Actor Was Unable to Keep Pace With Henry Cavill and Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 6
The film director revealed that there was another household name associated with the project, especially for the scene which would have been the duo’s target. But the unnamed star was unable to cope with the pace of the duo’s intense action sequence when he was put into “fight evaluation” with them. Hence, one of the film’s stuntmen, Liang Yang, was cast as the scene’s third fighter replacing him in the scene.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared,
“It’s a sequence other actors, when learning the level of commitment required, simply opted out.”
Even the Man of Steel star was impressed with the Chinese stuntman for his formidable strength.
“While I was shattered after the work we did together, he seemed unfazed and remained smiling … a true champion in ability and especially character.”
The four-minute intense brawl with the duo is surely one of the iconic scenes in the franchise that has fans hooked. Fans would be quite surprised to know the timeline to film the brutal bathroom scene.
The Intense Bathroom Fight Took 4 Weeks to Film!
The brutal bathroom brawl showed Yang, the decoy of John Lark leaving no mercy for Walker and Hunt in a two-on-one fight that went on for almost four minutes. However, it ends with Ilsa Faust (played by Rebecca Ferguson) shooting the decoy thus the luck falling in Hunt’s favor.
While the smooth brutal scene looks quite effortless, it was actually filmed for as long as four weeks to get to this level. In an interview with Collider, The Witcher star admitted the sequence being uncomfortably long.
“Overall the bathroom fight took 4 weeks to shoot, which, for a scene as intense as that, definitely felt uncomfortably long.”
It was worth their efforts as the sequence went on to add to the list of best action sequences from the franchise with the film widely considered to be the best installment in the saga. With a worldwide gross of $791 million, it was a commercial success becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise.
