Keaton and Douglas are no strangers to intimate scenes and making out on the big screen. Both have had their fair share of moments and experiences when it comes to onscreen romance. More than experienced, the two veteran actors starred together in the comedy And So It Goes.

Diane Keaton is more than fond of engaging in intimate scenes with her male costars., and has expressed the sentiment many times. In an episode of The Graham Norton Show, she said,

“Think of all the men you get to kiss and you don’t have to pay the price.”

Despite her fondness for the act, Keaton was left surprised by Michael Douglas during their kissing scene in the movie. She spoke about her experience on The Ellen Show,

“What was exciting about him he was sort of like a pit bull. He kind of attacked me…I was acting sort of cautious, but in my heart of hearts, I felt the same about him and I wanted to just get right with it. So it worked out very well for the scene, but I enjoyed it.”

Keaton went on to say despite the element of surprise she enjoyed the act. Keaton’s unwavering commitment to craft can be seen in her ability to fully immerse herself in each character’s journey, even when faced with unexpected surprises along the way.

While some would describe And So It Goes as an embarrassing and painful to sit-through experience, the lead actors had an amazing time on the sets. Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, who crossed paths for the first time on the sets of the movie despite being of similar ages, would constantly be pulling each other’s legs on set. Keaton remarked once,

“Oh, I just told him he was a big jerk all the time. You know, rich guy? Big deal! Who are you? And he loved it. He ate it up and so I knew how to get him. It was really fun. So I knew that we could get the scene going by me torturing him. And he was great at it because he’s better; he’s funnier than me.”

Their behind-the-scenes chemistry could be seen in the movie as well. Despite some regard it as wacky, the movie provided a fresh and witty story, a step away from the conventional comedy-romantic storylines.

You can stream And So It Goes on Amazon Prime Video.
