It’s no secret that Hollywood icon and activist Jane Fonda used to wear her heart on her sleeves. Having confessed to falling in love more than once, Fonda declared in 2018 that she decided to close up shop when she turned 80. And one of her one-sided love stories involves her 86-year-old co-actor, Robert Redford.
In one of her media interactions with the Vulture, Fonda admitted that she fell in love with the veteran actor Robert Redford during movie shoots.
Jane Fonda feels that Robert Redford probably had an issue with women
While talking about how she fell in love with Redford during film shoots, she revealed that her love was never reciprocated. Primarily because the leading man of the movie did not like to kiss. She added,
” He’s always in a bad mood, and I always thought it was my fault. He’s a very good person. He just has an issue with women.”
Throughout her life, Jane Fonda has had an exciting love life. Beginning with her first husband Roger Vadim whom she married in 1965, the Grace and Frankie actress later married activist Tom Hayden in 1973.
Moreover, prior to her marriage to Hayden, Fonda was in a relationship with French filmmaker Jean Luc Godard who directed her 1972 film, Tout Va Bien. While talking about their split, Fonda shared,
“He was a great filmmaker. I take my hat off. A great filmmaker. But as a man? I’m sorry. No, no.”
Having worked in three movies with Redford earlier in her career – 1966’s The Chase, 1967’s Barefoot in the Park, and 1979’s The Electric Horseman- the duo reunited once again for the 2017 film Our Souls at Night. However, this time, Fonda did not feel the same chemistry as she did during her previous encounters with Redford.

When Fonda realized that she is finally over Robert Redford
While Jane Fonda confessed that she fell in love with Redford while the two were working together, she further revealed that when she met him again in 2017, she felt like she was finally over him.
Explaining how she finally realized at the age of 80 that Redford’s bad mood had nothing to do with her and that she no longer had the same feelings for him, she stated,
“What was I, about 80 years old or something like that? And I finally knew I had grown up. When he would come on the set three hours late in a bad mood, I knew it wasn’t my fault…always had a good time.”
The 85-year-old actress is the recipient of various accolades that includes two Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, two British Academy Awards, and the AFI Life Achievement Award among others.
