Tom Cruise is one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood. Just like his filmography, his dating life is also extensive. However, fans of the star will be shocked to know that the star once considered becoming a monk and maintaining celibacy throughout his life. His first wife, Mimi Rogers, revealed that the actor seriously considered monkhood to address his spiritual needs. However, he clearly discarded that idea later on.
Tom Cruise Wanted To Become A Monk
In a 1993 interview with Playboy Magazine, Mimi Rogers, Tom Cruise’s first wife spilled the beans on their relationship and her ex-husband’s desire to be a monk. The couple was married from 1976 to 1980. Rogers said:
“Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though the marriage wouldn’t fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument. My instrument needed tuning.”
It was assumed that Cruise’s wish to become a monk was the reason the couple parted ways. However, the actor obviously didn’t end up being a monk. In fact, he went on to date and marry women like Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. Also, according to former Scientologist Brendan Tighe, several women even auditioned to be Cruise’s girlfriend, one of whom was allegedly Scarlett Johansson.
Did Scarlett Johansson Audition To Be Tom Cruise’s Girlfriend?
During a 2018 interview on Megyn Kelly Today, ex-Scientologist Brendan Tighe talked about how several actresses from Hollywood auditioned for the Church of Scientology to become Tom Cruise’s partner. He said that came across reports admitting the same while serving in the actor’s Scientology security unit. Tighe also clarified that he only mentioned Scarlett Johansson because her name was the only one he recognized in the reports.
Johansson rubbished this allegation and said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning. I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man, a.k.a. Brendan Tighe, would come up with a crazy story like that.”
The Church of Scientology itself also denied all of Tighe’s claims. The Church of Scientology International’s Karin Pouw clarified in an interview with Megyn Kelly Today that Tighe worked as a security guard from 2002 to 2009. So he didn’t have any access to anything apart from security camera footage. She added that he was removed from his job due to failure to perform his duty. Cruise is reportedly busy filming his next project Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
