The Chris Rock and Will Smith debacle is the gift that just keeps on giving. More than a year has passed since the slap incident at the 2022 Oscars ceremony and even though things have calmed down a lot and social media has seemingly moved on from the incident, it looks like Chris Rock hasn’t.
The comedian has a special out on Netflix called Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, where he referenced the infamous slap incident and made jokes about Jada Pinkett Smith’s relationship outside of her marriage with Will Smith. Now, her lover, August Alsina, has responded to the jokes by Rock.
Chris Rock On Will Smith And Jada Pinkett Smith In His Comedy Special
Chris Rock didn’t hold back in his Selective Outrage comedy special. The comedian (and slap receiver) went all out to supposedly get his revenge on Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. He joked about Jada Smith’s affairs and said:
“Everybody knows that had nothing to do with me. I didn’t have any entanglements. His (Will Smith) wife was f—king her son’s friend. Now, I normally would not talk about this sh—, but for some reason, these n—s put that shit on the internet. I have no idea why two people that talented would do something that low down.”
August Alsina is apparently the person Jaden Smith introduced to his parents. A few years back there were rumors about Jada Smith dating him. At the 2017 BET Awards, that the two attended together, Alsina said that his relationship with his friend’s mother wasn’t platonic at all. He said:
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it—so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
In July 2020, on the much memed Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith confirmed the relationship. It was revealed that she and her husband, Will Smith, had decided to go their separate ways for a while to find out what made them happy again.
After the separation, she dated Alsina and said, “As time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August.” The executive producer of Netflix’s Cleopatra later confirmed that she was indeed in a relationship with him.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s Lover Responds To Chris Rock’s Daring Comedy Special
The New York Post initially reported that August Alsina had seen Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. The site quoted a source saying, “August watched the Netflix special and he laughed. He thought it was not only funny but truthful. That was the best part for him.” However, a representative of the singer said to Entertainment Tonight that “Mr. Alsina has not seen Chris Rock’s special at all, as he’s been busy on tour.”

Alsina, for his part, confirmed his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith on The Breakfast Club in 2020. He claimed that Will Smith gave him his blessings to romance his wife. He said,
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they’ve spoken on several times. He gave me his blessing.”
It remains to be seen if Alsina comments on the situation in the future.
Chris Rock: Selective Outrage is streaming on Netflix.
