The release of the latest animated film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has left fans of the Spider-Man universe buzzing with appreciation. In fact, it is safe to say that more British actors than American actors have played Spider-Man as of late. There are many heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but only a small percentage of them are played by Americans.

Even Holland once admitted that his English accent has occasionally interfered with filming when discussing his entry into the MCU with the BBC. The actor told a hilarious tale about how he had to redo an entire scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming because he let his accent slip.
“There is one scene—I guess [dialect coach] Rick [Lipton] wasn’t there that day — where I went full English. And for some reason, no one picked up on it.”

Why Daniel Kaluuya Had to Be Cast as Spider-Punk?
Aside from his role in the 2021 film, Judas and the Black Messiah, which won the actor an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, Daniel Kaluuya also appears in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Kemp Powers, co-director, claims that he originally had Kaluuya in mind to play Spider-Punk even as the character’s look for the movie was still being developed. According to the co-director, Kaluuya perfectly captures the essence of the Spider-Punk character, in part due to his British accent.
He described the 34-year-old actor as:
“A punk-rock poster come to life, and I love Daniel Kaluuya’s Camden accent. Even as we were initially designing the character, I had Daniel’s voice in my head.”
Kaluuya promotes authenticity and cultural diversity in the Hollywood scene by keeping his British accent. It serves as a reminder that actors shouldn’t be required to alter their accents in order to be successful.
