Homework for us folks is normal, but when we think of Hollywood stars, the image of them sitting down to complete assignments doesn’t really cross our minds. Yet, the cast of the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint did exactly that for their third movie.
For Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the studio brought in Alfonso Cuarón, an Oscar-winning director. He has taken home the golden statue in the Best Director category twice. Once for Gravity and the other for Roma. Cuarón assigned homework to the three leads, but only two of them submitted the assignment.
Harry Potter 3 Director Made Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, And Rupert Grint Do Homework
In HBO’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special, Alfonso Cuarón, the director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, said that he had a unique challenge in front of him. As per the director, the first two films were about childhood, but in the third one, the characters are entering their teenage years.
So to make sure that the main trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were on board with this idea, Cuarón made them write essays about their characters. Watson took this homework seriously and submitted a 16-page essay in true Hermione fashion. Radcliffe did the work but only submitted one page.
However, Rupert Grint was the exception. He didn’t submit anything and explained that Ron wouldn’t do his assignment either. Many agreed with his assessment. It has now been years since audiences last saw them in theaters together. In fact, there’s a new HBO Max Harry Potter reboot happening as well and Radcliffe had a lot to say about it.
Daniel Radcliffe Commented On The Upcoming HBO Max Harry Potter show
In an interview with Deadline, Harry Potter franchise star Daniel Radcliffe revealed his feelings about the recently announced Harry Potter show coming to HBO Max. The actor explained that he was never under the illusion that he would be the only guy to play the part. Radcliffe said:
“I don’t think— that’s the thing, that’s what’s interesting, I think Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes. Or like the people who saw Basil Rathbone play Sherlock Holmes, would have been like, ‘No one else can ever do this.’ Well, you know, they’re gonna though. So it’ll get passed onto someone else.”
As for the reboot, he is happy to think that some other kid actor’s life is going to change soon just like his did about two decades ago. The star said:
“The weird thought I have now is there’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in a couple of years. My brain does go there… but I think the films continuing, or the series, in this case, was pretty inevitable.”
Author J.K Rowling will be the executive producer of the upcoming show and reportedly, HBO is going all in on the Harry Potter show and planning to allocate a huge budget to it. However, will audiences love it as much as the films? That will be interesting to witness.
The Harry Potter films are available on HBO Max.
