At 81, Harrison Ford is still working hard and churning out movies and other projects. In 2023 alone, he had two releases in film and TV which is astonishing as well as inspiring for a man of his age to still be passionate and enthusiastic about acting. He was in the brilliant comedy series Shrinking alongside Jason Segal which was such a breath of fresh air. Ford’s impeccable comic timing was such a delight to witness and it was refreshing to see him venture into something that he rarely does in his films.
The other project was the highly anticipated fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise. He faced off against the Nazis in the film and was pitted against Mads Mikkelsen’s character. Mikkelsen seems to have had a great time working on the film and a great working relationship with Ford, while also being the subject of his pranks on set.
Harrison Ford Called Mads Mikkelsen a Nazi on Set
In an interview with GQ, Mads Mikkelsen talked about some of his significant films and projects in his career. Casino Royale. Hannibal, The Hunt, Another Round, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny were some of the projects that he talked about. Talking about Indiana Jones, he played the character of Jürgen Voller, a character which is based on the real-life Nazi scientist Wernher von Braun. He talked about working with Harrison Ford and the great working relationship he had with him. He also revealed a prank that Ford pulled on him whenever he came on set. He said,
“Normally, he would just see me wherever I was, randomly, far away, and he would scream ‘There goes a Nazi!’”
Mikkelsen also hilariously spoke about how some of the crew who worked on the film and were not aware of the story were terrified and felt that he was a real Nazi. He also praised Ford for being young at heart and an absolute professional on set. The fact that he does not behave like a legend and is completely down-to-earth made Mikkelsen admire Ford more and worthy of the tag of a legend.
Harrison Ford Wanted an Emotional Ending for Indiana Jones
In an interview with BBC, Harrison Ford talked about the trajectory that he wanted to take for his last hurrah as Indiana Jones. After playing the character for almost 40 years, Ford wanted his ending to have meaning and evoke catharsis. He said,
“We’ve been making these films for 40 years, we can’t deny the effect of age on the character, and I wanted to see that developed into a complex story. I was not so much interested in doing the same thing over and over again, I wanted to have an emotional ending to this character. And I’m so grateful for the audience that we’ve had, I just wanted to make sure that they would be satisfied and happy with the final iteration”
Understandably, Ford wanted his final outing as the character to be his best and bow out with flying colors. The role is one of his most beloved ones, so he does not want fans to be disappointed with his performance or the quality of the film. He wants them to bid goodbye with a bang and leave them happy and satisfied.
What is Harrison Ford Working on Now?
Despite Harrison Ford’s efforts, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny underperformed at the box office, resulting in a huge loss for Disney. Ford is next set to return in the second season of both his shows 1923 and Shrinking which were applauded by both critics and audiences.
He will also be debuting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the film Captain America: Brave New World alongside Anthony Mackie. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on July 26, 2024. He will also make an appearance in the team-up film Thunderbolts starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Wyatt Russell.
