With the recent news of a leak in the gaming community, it seems that the video game Half Life 3 may have some sort of reveal in the forthcoming Gamescom this year. Valve, an American game developer and distribution company, has confirmed that they will be attending Gamescom this year and after making a resurgence with their 2020 game Half Life: Alyx, fans have been eagerly awaiting for a leak or announcement of the third Half Life installment.
After Valve will be among the attendees to come to Gamescom in August which resulted in these rumors about Half Life 3 coming into circulation and fruition.
Half Life 3 Announcement Evidence
As with these sort of rumours, they have to originate from somewhere, and this particular rumour was noticed by an eagle-eyed member of the popular website Reddit. Having used the app for Gamescom, they noticed something was amiss.
A user on Reddit by the name of ItzDarko42 has said,
“The gaming fair Gamescom has a companion app. In it you can see a list of exhibitors. In that list you can find Valve. Valve is not officially confirmed to be on the Gamescom yet. If you look at the exhibited brands you can see Half Life. That could be a mistake of course, but if not that would be pretty interesting.”
Some time later, the Reddit post was edited saying,
“The Gamescom companion app I used doesn’t exist anymore in Google Play. I downloaded it last year and just checked in out of curiosity. I didn’t notice that the app was outdated, because the few infos I checked seemed current to me, like Bethesda, who listed Starfield and Blizzard, who listed Diablo 4. I’m sorry if I gave you false hope. I will mark this post as debunked.”
The Future of Half Life 3
Understandably, fans are clamouring for something about the game to be released and with no “official” word to be had, it makes it very hard to say that anything is set in stone for the game. Other people have made the argument that Valve is there just for business circumstances.
Valve is listed as one of the exhibitors, but they are only based in Hall 4, according to the Gamescom map. It does make fans wonder if there will be a surprise announcement. If so, that wouldn’t be such a shock as conventions have made surprise announcements before without the knowledge of fans and audiences.
Organizers had told Eurogamer that its inclusion was actually a mistake. All we can do now is wait and hope for the best. What do you think? Will Gamescom be the location of the long-rumoured and longer-wanted Half Life 3?
