The Transformers star opened up on his massive weight gain for the film Father Stu in 2022. He had to beef up for the character in the film.
In an interview with Today, he shared about his difficult workout regime for weight gain,
“Had 3 weeks to be in good boxing shape. This is all happening before 50, it’s a rollercoaster.”
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, he shared,
“Unfortunately, I had to consume for two weeks 7,000 calories and then for another two weeks 11,000 calories.”
“It was fun for about an hour.”
“It’s such a hard, physical thing to do. Losing weight, you just kind of tough it out — you just don’t eat, and exercise. And this, even when you’re full, I would wake up after a meal and have another meal. I was eating every three hours. It was not fun.”

On the show, the Uncharted star was asked about the struggles in the weight transformation at the age of 50. He shared,
“Once the metabolism slows down, it gets really difficult. I’d been trying to get this movie made for three years. We only had 30 days to shoot it. And so I wanted to really make it happen.”
Mark Wahlberg also talked about his weight transformation on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April,
“After the boxing scenes, I get to put on as much weight as possible over the course of the film. So I’m challenging myself to put on 30 pounds in the next six weeks.”
Father Stu is a biographical drama film focussing on the life of Stuart Long, a four-mouthed boxer who becomes a Catholic priest and lives with a progressive muscle disorder. The film was written and directed by Rosalind Ross and produced with a budget of $4 million.
