The Iron Man star Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin were married for a decade. However, in 2014, they decided to call it quits mutually. Although rumors of Martin cheating on the Oscar-winning actress have been floating around for some time back then, according to sources the rumors were unfounded.
The main reason behind the seemingly happy couple’s split was apparently their not being able to spend much time together. With Paltrow’s growing Marvel career, and Chris Martin being busy with his Coldplay schedules, it is understandable how troubles could have stemmed. According to the insider source the couple has been preparing for the eventual split for quite some time even with showing a united front in front of others.

In between trying to align their schedules and being together in their homes in London and LA, it seems the pair had been struggling for a long time. An insider told People,
“They have worked really hard for a year or more, going to therapy, trying to make it work – and she’s been more honest than ever about how hard marriage is – but they just decided it was best to not be together anymore as a couple.” As for the cheating, the source mentioned that Paltrow finds the rumors, “ridiculous. And you know what? She doesn’t care what people think. She really doesn’t, she knows the truth.”
Gwyneth Paltrow was also seen speaking in interviews in the year leading up to the divorce that people can not learn anything new about each other unless they are having difficult conversations. She added, “Dealing with things directly changed my relationships. Sometimes when you get clear about who you are, others get less comfortable because they liked who you were. It’s changed my marriage, too, but he’s up for the challenge.”
However, it seems the distance eventually took its toll on them as they, “really tried to make the marriage work, but sometimes it’s best to not be married,” the source told People. It seems the pair found peace in that as they realized that it is better to part ways by then.

Just a few days before their split, the pair were seen attending galas in several places where they seemed quite close. Even with their rule of not being photographed together on Red Carpet, something they maintained even at their last public appearance together, according to sources, it seemed they were doing quite well.
This seems to further shed light on their presenting a united front for their children, so they get to live their lives as smoothly as possible. “They made an effort to be there for their kids at their activities,” a source close to Paltrow notes in a conversation with People. According to them, although Paltrow and Martin were not a traditional couple, they “tried to do anything any family would do, from carpool to a lemonade stand.”
The source also mentioned that in line with them keeping a united front, even in their split, they seem to be dealing with it together for the sake of their children. “They are both prepared for the next few weeks and what people are going to say and they really don’t care,” the source added. As they said that they are still a family and will always be a family, even years after their split it seems they maintained that steady ground for their children.
