Oscar Isaac Shares Traumatic Childhood Experiences
In his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Dune star Oscar Isaac shared his religious upbringing, including attending a Christian school and the teachings he learned as a kid that he has somehow managed to outgrow. He explained:
“All of it was weird, and a form of spiritual abuse, I would say. There were some really beautiful things as well. I think there’s a lot of commonality with a lot of immigrant families that come to this country, and they find their community with these kinds of very religious groups. But it was weird. It was weird to grow up with exorcisms at home sometimes.”
Isaac shared how he grew up witnessing religious rites at his own house, and that included people exorcising his grandmother. While he shared this harrowing experience as a child, he just laughed it off with a joke that his grandmother probably needed it. Isaac continued:
“Yeah, I remember them exorcising my grandma. Grandma needs an exorcism. I feel like she’s been really annoying lately. It was a lot of weird stuff.”
To add more spine-chilling stories to the interview, the actor also revealed he used to transport corpses as his first real job. As if the actor’s personal life could not get any more interesting, he shared:
“The longest job I had was as a transporter at a hospital. So, I would take bodies to the morgue.”
Isaac described his work at the hospital, claiming that the most interesting part was the bodies were put in a special stretcher but placed underneath so no one would know he was wheeling around a corpse. He also revealed he brought down more than 50 bodies to the morgue.
Oscar Isaac Reveals True Sentiments About His Christian Upbringing
In relation to Oscar Isaac’s “very Christian” rearing and strange experiences as a kid, he admitted that his father strictly enforced religion at home. He told GQ:
“My dad was a man of extremes. And the way my mom was raised, she followed her husband. So, if God spoke to my father one day and said we were not supposed to have a TV in the house, it was suddenly gone. I was never frightened by it. I was more curious why I wasn’t feeling the real thing myself.”
When he became an adult, Isaac slowly tried to break away from church and its beliefs, which he described as “slow amputation.” Fans can really tell the actor had a very unforgettable childhood that he is deliberately trying to move on from.
