2022 is going to be remembered through a lot of events. Whether it was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars or everyone sharing their Wordle screenshots, 2022 was quite an interesting year. Actor Johnny Depp was also linked to making 2022 an eventful year thanks to his courtroom ordeal with ex-wife Amber Heard.
With the year becoming a thing of the past, it was time for Google to release the list of top trending searches in 2022. While it was initially believed that it was Amber Heard who was the most searched celebrity of the year, the list released by Google themselves states otherwise. The most searched celebrity of 2022 is not Amber Heard but Johnny Depp.
Johnny Depp Emerges Victorious, Once Again
After winning the defamation trial, it looks like Johnny Depp has achieved another win over Amber Heard. This time, however, the battle was over Internet popularity. Thanks to Google which has been collecting this data from January 01 to November 27, we have a list of the top trending searches of 2022. According to Google, these are “searches that had a high spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2022 as compared to 2021.”
Previously, it was claimed that Heard is 2022’s most searched celebrity followed by Depp, Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Brady, and Kim Kardashian in decreasing order.
Now we know that that was certainly not the case as the list revealed by Google puts Depp in the number one spot followed by Will Smith in second place and then Heard in third place. Not only is Depp the most searched celebrity, but he is also said to be the highest-searched person of 2022. It looks like the entire world was invested in the Depp vs. Heard battle.
The Top Searches at Google
While Depp and Heard are in the top three of the most Googled actors, a few other lists were also released. Talking about the entertainment industry, Adam Levine was the most searched in the artist and band catergory. Encanto and Euphoria lead the movie and TV show categories, respectively. The song that was most looked up on Google is none other than We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto.
Coming to the most searched words of 2022, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see “Wordle” coming in the first place given the fact that everyone was super into this entertaining word game. The second on the list is “India vs. England” which is a cricket match between the two countries. Third place goes to Ukraine owing to the country’s dispute with Russia. The top three searches, as you can see, vary widely from each other.
These searches are based on the searches getting a sudden spike in the terms being Googled around the world, as compared to the previous year.
