Godzilla TV Show Taps In WandaVision Director For Apple TV+ Premiere

The Monsterverse is expanding, and this time to the smaller screen. After the massive success of Godzilla vs Kong, Legendary Pictures seems quite eager to expand the universe across various platforms. With a sequel to Godzilla vs Kong already in development, the Monsterverse has now found two different avenues in Netflix and Apple TV+. With an animated Skull Island series already being developed at Netflix, the live-action Godzilla Apple TV+ series has now found its director in Matt Shakman from WandaVision fame.

As per Variety, the WandaVision director has been roped in to direct two episodes. After his spectacular run on Marvel Studios’ first-ever foray into live-action television, Matt Shakman has been in high demand. Apart from this untitled Godzilla TV series, Shakman has also been tapped to direct Star Trek 4, which is set to release next December.

What is Apple TV+ untitled Godzilla show’s synopsis?

Though Matt Shakman has been confirmed to direct two episodes of this untitled series, most of the details regarding the show have been tightly kept under the wraps. However, according to the official synopsis, the Apple TV+ series will follow the aftermath of Godzilla (2014), picking up the events after the ‘leveling’ of San Francisco. The show will revolve around a family who uncovers some dark secrets related to the mysterious organization named Monarch.

“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”

When will be the Apple TV+ Godzilla show released?

As of now, no official release date has yet been revealed regarding the show. However, it is being speculated that the series will premiere probably in late 2023 or early 2024. Moreover, it is also unknown whether the live-action series will be connected to the animated Skull Island show which is being developed at Netflix.

For the untitled Godzilla series, acclaimed comic-book writer Matt Fraction (Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon) and Chris Black will be serving as executive producers. Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) will also serve as the showrunner for the series. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will serve as EPs for Toho, the original creator of Godzilla.
