Michael Caine saved Lance Guest’s life while filming Jaws: The Revenge

Famous author, Mark Edlitz interviewed the Jaws: The Revenge actor Lance Guest for his book – Movies Go Fourth: 4th Films in Fantastic Franchises. In the interview, Guest opened up on his real horror incident while shooting for the film.

The actor shared,

“I always say Michael Caine saved my life. And it’s a totally over-dramatic and overblown version of something that could have been disastrous. We were doing a scene in the climax of the movie where my character is afraid that my mom is going to kill herself by confronting the shark by herself. So Michael Caine, Mario Van Peebles, and I are in a dinky little boat, and we’re after her. I’m in the back of the boat and they’re in front.”

He added that he weighed about 160 pounds, hence the front part of the boat was submerged in the water. He shared that the battery pack running the boat was about the size of a chessboard. Guest recalled,

“As the boat goes down, the cameraman throws the camera on the barge, which is about five feet away and somebody catches the camera. Mario jumps overboard and the boat fills with water. So I’m sitting in a bathtub with a toaster. I feel this hand behind me, and I heard Michael scream, “Get the f*** out of the boat.” With one hand, he pulls me out of the boat and onto the board because he didn’t want me to get electrocuted. So that’s my great Jaws: The Revenge story.”

The actor further added that it wasn’t unsafe working conditions on the sets. He shared it could have been a twelve-volt battery pack and was covered in plastic. He shared that it’s just kind of funny.
