The post-credits scene of the movie Justice League features Deathstroke calling for a league of villains. DC’s deadliest assassin, played by Joe Manganiello in the film, had plans laid down for him for a standalone movie. The DCEU had high hopes for the character and roped in Gareth Evans to direct the proposed Deathstroke movie. However, the plan never saw the day of light, and the film has since been shelved.
The origin of Deathstroke in the movie
Evans spoke about the incident in a recent interview. Evans, who had directed the action movies Raid and Raid 2, disclosed some details as to what approach he would have taken with the DC character. The director, while promoting his new series Gangs of London, stated that the Deathstroke movie would have focused upon the origin of the character. Moreover, an insight into the DC villain’s life would have served as a backdrop of the movie’s plot.
How the film would have been made?
Evans said that the movie would have had a duration of approximately 100 minutes. The director’s influence with South Korean noir films could have affected his filmmaking on the DC movie. Evans stated that he felt that the texture and the tone of such Korean films would have beautifully depicted Deathstroke’s story to the audience. Moreover, Evans admitted to not being a comic book fan. However, he said that he had done his prior research on the DC character. According to him, a Shakespearean style would have been employed with the movie’s making,
Evans future plans for the project
Despite the Deathstroke movie being shelved by both DC as well as Warner Brothers, Evans still has hopes for returning on the project in the future. He revealed his interest in the project if DC became enthusiastic about it again.
However, this seems an unlikely possibility due to DC and Warner Brothers focusing more on a movie-by-movie approach. Fans would have to hold on to their popcorn tubs, until DC comes up with further updates.
