The Best Console-Gaming SSDs Available as Part of Amazon Prime Day Deals 2023

With the capabilities and power of the current generation of consoles allowing developers a platform to make some of the biggest games we’ve ever seen, it seems to be an almost daily occurrence that we’ll be making the hard decision of what game or app to remove just to allow us to play our newest purchase.

Gone are the days of having a huge library of games on your shelf to be picked up and played instantly, with games nowadays needing to be installed first. This is for various reasons of course, but the added organisation needed to ensure you always have space for the next game, or the time to install something you’ve previously deleted just to get involved with it again is irritating.

Thankfully, we have the option of expandable storage on the newest consoles, and with installation being relatively simple, Amazon Prime Day is a great time to jump on board and not have to worry any more.

Gaming SSDs Available as Part of Amazon Prime Day Deals

Every year, middle of July, you’ll see adverts absolutely everywhere for the Prime Day sale. Being Amazon Prime, there are deals on absolutely anything and everything, but for now, we’re focusing on the best gaming SSDs with the biggest discounts.

WD_Black SN850 2TB NVMe SSD – Officially Licensed for PS5 consoles – up to 7000MB/s

Gaming SSDs Available as Part of Amazon Prime Day Deals

Western Digital have long been in the expandable storage game, and at this price, this may be one of, if not the best SSD deal you’ll see in the Prime Day Deals. Totally 2TB, you’ll be going from 1TB to a huge 3TB in total, meaning the days of deleting games will long be behind you.

  • Officially licensed M.2 SSD for PlayStation 5 consoles
  • All-in-one heatsink SSD design installs easily in the M.2 expansion slot
  • Hold up to 50 games with up to 2TB of added storage
  • PCIe Gen4 technology with read speeds up to 7000MB/s and write speeds up to 5300MB/s (1TB model) for a seamless gameplay experience
  • Store and play PS5 compatible games directly from drive

Between the read and write speeds, as well as using the SSD as if it were original storage, you won’t notice any performance issues with the games you play from the SSD, and at a Prime Day Deal price of £139.99/$143.99 you’ll be kicking yourself at not picking this up for your PlayStation 5.

WD_BLACK 1TB P40 Game Drive SSD USB-C USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 External NVMe Solid State Drive up to 2000 MB/s Customizable RGB lighting works with Playstation, Xbox, PC, & Mac

WD_BLACK 1TB P40 Game Drive SSD USB-C USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 External NVMe Solid State Drive up to 2000 MB/s Customizable RGB lighting works with Playstation, Xbox, PC, & Mac

Another Western Digital SSD here, and this one works with both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Compared to the above, this isn’t a top SSD, and with the other gaming SSDs available as part of Amazon Prime Day deals you may want to choose a different one, especially if you have the money for the above for PlayStation 5. However, you could also do a lot worse.

  • Customise your drive’s RGB lighting with the downloadable WD_BLACK Dashboard to show off your style and make every play personal (Windows only)
  • Kick loading into overdrive with a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface and speeds up to 2,000MB/s
  • Compete and conquer on the go with a compact and portable form factor that makes it easy to take your gaming library with you
  • Keep more of the latest and largest titles installed and ready to launch with capacities of up to 2TB
  • Built with WD_BLACK toughness thanks to a shock-resistant structure, this durable drive can survive a drop of up to two-meters

With having to manually transfer the gamers from the SSD to the system memory, the loss of booting straight from the SSD could be frustrating, but when you add in the portability of it, it comes back into its own. Currently at £117.99/$104.99, if you spend a lot of time going to a friends with your games, this’ll be a good fit.

Crucial P5 Plus 1TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD Internal Gaming SSD with Heatsink, Compatible with Playstation 5 (PS5) – up to 6600MB/s

Crucial P5 Plus 1TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD Internal Gaming SSD with Heatsink, Compatible with Playstation 5 (PS5) - up to 6600MB/s

If you can’t quite stump up the extra money that Western Digital require for their premium products, Crucial currently have a cheaper alternative that’ll perform the same job, almost.

  • Proven game performance: Get speeds up to 6,600MB/s for endless victories
  • Compatible with PlayStation 5: Even faster than PS5 requirements for the edge in game
  • Sleek integrated heatsink: Push your gaming to the limit while dissipating heat in style
  • DirectStorage enabled: Load games and assets faster with Microsoft DirectStorage
  • Fully loaded: Up to 2TB of powerful capacity; for more games, apps, photos and more; includes 5-year limited warranty

Slightly slowly write and read speeds mean there may be times where it’ll take an extra couple of seconds to load into a map or new match, but what’s a couple of seconds? At only £64.99/$53.99 it may be the cheapest option to solve your storage woes.

Unfortunately the majority of the Xbox external storage options are either HDD or just flat out portable HDDs, with very few SSDs actually available currently. Due to the recent change in expansion slots storage, the few that are available aren’t on the Prime Day Deals, but there’s hope for the future.

What do you make of these choices? Are you going to be picking up any of the gaming SSDs available as part of Amazon Prime Day deals? Let us know in the comments!
