Xbox’s Game Pass Left Red-Faced after Banning User… for Being Nice?

Game Pass

You’ve probably witnessed players getting banned for using offensive language, but we bet the latest Xbox Game Pass ban will leave you questioning anything you say while gaming. Apparently, there is now a possibility of a potential ban even if you say something nice. In this particular case, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber literally got suspended because they said GG, which stands for “good game,” to another player.

This is cautionary for all subscribers because no one is safe from getting banned, not even people who just want to share positivity in the community. In fact, the aforementioned subscriber was unable to use their account for two whole days for committing the sin of being nice online.

The Dreaded “Eight Strike” Policy on Xbox Game Pass

An Xbox Game Pass Ultimate User Got Banned for Saying GG.
An Xbox Game Pass Ultimate user was banned for saying GG.

Recently, Xbox announced that it’ll be introducing a new system to manage its Game Pass community, which will be based on a total of eight strikes. Game Pass Tracker shared the news in a post on X, while also notably mentioning that the platform actually used to encourage players to send “good game” to other gamers as part of its “Ambassador program.”

Of course, there is always a possibility of the ban being caused by an error because it is a direct contradiction and doesn’t make sense for Xbox to suspend someone from doing something it specifically asked its fans to do just a while ago.

It’s not a surprise that the random ban came up so soon after Xbox announced its dreaded new monitoring policy called “Eight (8) Strikes & You’re Out.” The rule states that an account will most definitely be suspended if it commits a total of eight offenses online on the Xbox Network.

Naturally, this has caused a lot of Xbox Game Pass users to start worrying about themselves as well, with many hoping that this ban wasn’t intentional and was an error instead, while also asking about the frequency at which accounts are suspended due to unjustified reasons.

Will Xbox Game Pass users be regularly banned now just for complimenting another player by saying “GG” too many times? Will players have a fair chance to fight for their case and explain the situation for a potential un-ban?

These are some of the questions Game Pass users are beginning to ask because of the uncertainty that comes along with a moderation system like this.

What Exactly Did the Game Pass User Mean by GG?

The Banned Xbox Game Pass User Probably Didn't Mean "Good Game" By "GG."
The banned Xbox Game Pass user probably didn’t mean “Good Game” by “GG.”

Although the actual context behind the Xbox Game Pass user’s ban remains unclear, the community has an idea about what could’ve happened. The subscriber apparently received two strikes for the message that simply said “GG,” which doesn’t seem to make much sense if the abbreviation refers to “good game.” In fact, commenters on both the aforementioned post on Twitter/X and the original thread on Reddit started coming up with their own theories about the whole scenario.

The exact message that got the Xbox Game Pass user into trouble read “2v3 ggs,” and although “gg” usually means “good game” among the gaming community, some people interpreted the message as “get good scrub” instead. The user, called Kind_Fox_6358 on Reddit, shared their side of the story on the platform, confirming that they actually did mean “good game” when they sent out the infamous “gg.”

What do you think the banned Game Pass user meant by “ggs?” According to you, was the ban justified? Let us know in the comments!
