Isaac Hempstead Wright thought Game of Thrones’ final script was a joke
Isaac Hempstead Wright, who got the role of Bran Stark in Game of Thrones, played a pivotal role in the finale season. The final season had numerous moments which were unexpected by the fans. Actor Hempstead Wright was also one among those, who were amazed by the final script.
The actor shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he thought the ending of the show part in the script was a joke. He could not believe that Brak Stark got the Iron Throne, despite other prominent and deserving characters like John Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. These roles were played by Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington.
Isaac Hempstead Wright said,
“When I got to the [Dragonpit scene] in the last episode and they’re like, ‘What about Bran?’ I had to get up and pace around the room. I genuinely thought it was a joke script and that [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] sent everyone a script with their own character ending up on the Iron Throne. ‘Yeah, good one guys. Oh sh*t, it’s actually real?’”
As per the plot of the show, Daenerys Targaryen caused the destruction of a surrendered King’s Landing, in which thousands of innocents died. Jon Snow had to reluctantly kill her, to prevent further massacres and destruction.
Isaac Hempstead Wright feels Bran Stark was a perfect choice for Iron Throne
Though the actor was initially shocked to read the script, he was satisfied with the end of the show. He shared that he believes Bran Three-Eyed Raven Stark will be a good ruler as the Three-Eyed Raven knows everything about the past and the future.
The actor said,
“I think he’ll be a really good king, actually. Perhaps there will be something missing in having a real emotive leader, which is a useful quality in a king or queen as well. At the same time, you can’t really argue with Bran. He’s like, ‘No, I know everything.’”
The actor also added that a part of him preferred his character to die a cool death in the final episode. He shared,
“I’m happy. Though I kind of did want to die and get in one good death scene with an exploding head or something.”
The show concluded in 2019, and a spinoff prequel series House of the Dragon premiered in 2022.
