The ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood has been occupying a significant chunk of the entertainment news over the past week. The strike is a labor initiative of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) representing more than 11,000 writers in the television and film space. The organization went into combat mode to demand better income and recognition for their services which were compromised following the pandemic. Writers also called out the detrimental effects of AI tools like Chat GPT which could possibly displace them from their jobs.
While the writers’ strike is a battle that needs to be fought, the effects of the ongoing uprising have affected the future of many films and television shows owing to many writers who have stopped working in protest. One of the marquee series that has been indefinitely stalled due to the strike is the much-awaited prequel to the Game Of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
George R.R Martin Updated Fans On Fate Of Game Of Thrones Prequel
Prolific author George R.R Martin whose vast imagination was brought to life on screen through the highly popular series Game Of Thrones has expressed his candid thoughts on the ongoing Writer’s Strike in Hollywood. Martin’s series of novellas titled Three Tales of Dunk and Egg will now be transformed into an HBO prequel titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Despite the current writers’ strike threatening to delay the series, Martin was confident that the show will go on despite writing being stalled at the moment.
“As of May 2, the pens are down and the computer screens have gone dark all across Hollywood, but production will continue so long as there are scripts to shoot. The proviso being, of course, that those scripts must be shot EXACTLY as they were as of midnight on May 1. Not a word can be changed, cut, added, not a scene can be altered.”
Martin also spoke of the importance of writers and the fact that they were the soul of any script. He expressed his hope that the strike would yield favorable results for creative artists who deserved higher validation through better pay and recognition.
Here’s What the Game of Thrones Prequel Has To Offer
The latest installment in the Game of Thrones franchise will be a prequel that is based on the series of fantasy novellas by George R.R Martin. Titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the show will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire which was brought to life in House of the Dragon.
George R.R Martin will serve as writer and executive producer as will Ira Parker who was a co-executive producer on Season 1 of House of the Dragon. The series was originally slated for a 2024 release but with the writers’ strike still prevalent and expected to last a while, there is a possibility for the show to be further delayed.
