Gal Gadot Might Return to DCU: James Gunn Yet to Decide the Fate of Wonder Woman After Henry Cavill’s Controversial Exit

Gal Gadot has been one of the strongest pillars of the DC Cinematic Universe for almost seven years. Her portrayal of Wonder Woman got rave reviews during a time when the franchise was under attack for the mediocre product it was serving. Her presence was a glimmer of light inside the darkness that was the DCEU. Her standalone movie in 2017 got critics and fans buzzing about her potential inside the universe.

But it slowly came crashing down with the sequel, as Wonder Woman 84 was not received as well as the first one. And with the new regime, things have started to look even shakier.

Many people were curious about which Justice League actors will be recast for DC’s impending relaunch, and earlier statements from DC Studios co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran indicated which actors would be absent from Chapter 1 of the DCU.

Things are still unclear whether Gal Gadot is in James Gunn’s future plans

Gunn recently clarified rumors regarding the DCU’s casting by stating that “certain heroes” from the DCEU will continue to be present in the new setting. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Weasel (Sean Gunn) from The Suicide Squad are at the forefront of that list.

Additionally, a number of speculations and rumors started to circulate, most of which centered on the whereabouts of major DCEU stars including Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill.

Gal Gadot’s involvement with the rebooted DCU as Wonder Woman is unknown, especially after a previous report said that Diana Prince will not be a part of Chapter 1 of the DCU.

James Gunn added that he and Safran “spoke” to Gadot during the Q&A section of the DC slate presentation, noting that the actress was “open for doing stuff.”

The fact that the duo is unsure of “what [they’re] going to do with it,” however, suggests that Gadot’s involvement in the DCU is in doubt.

In addition, the Paradise Lost HBO Max project from the DC Universe is confirmed to take place before Diana’s birth, so there’s still a possibility that Gadot will make an appearance in the future.

Some casual fans might be perplexed by the return of Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa as their respective DC heroes.

Does keeping Gal Gadot affect the DCU in the long run?

Although it’s encouraging to see DCEU stalwarts like Gal Gadot included in whatever James Gunn and Peter Safran have in mind for the DCU, it would be safer to start from scratch with a new Justice League ensemble because it would allow for more distinctive acting from various actors.

Gunn intends to “[start] from scratch” with the new DCEU, according to Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, who previously stated that Gunn will hire “younger and fresher” actors to play the DC superheroes.

Hence, it’s better to have younger actors representing the franchise for the next 10-15 years, instead of chasing the old.
